Through your lens: Central Community Photo Contest

Show your vision for the Central Community area

Take up to five photos that tell a story about what you want or what you love about SLC’s Central Community Neighborhood. See contest details and prompts below.

Do you live in Ballpark, East Liberty, Liberty, Central City, or East Central neighborhoods? If you do, then you are part of the Central Community area!

Contest Details

If you live, work, or play in the Central Community area, you are invited to submit a photo story with up to five photos responding to one of the following prompts. Showcase what you love about this area — or highlight how you’d like to see it grow and develop.

  • Neighborhood Sparkle: Parks, small businesses, public art and more can make our neighborhoods shine. Tell a story of the neighborhood spots that mean the most to you or show what you’d like to see in the future.
  • Housing: Tell a story about housing in your neighborhood. What types of buildings do you love? What is your housing situation? What do you think is works for people, and what are the problems?
  • Getting Around: How do people get around your neighborhood? What streets, or ways of getting around do you love? What could be better?

Why are we asking for your photos?

Salt Lake City is updating the Central Community Plan, which was last adopted in 2005. This update will establish a vision for the Central Community for the next 15 years and align local goals and policies with Plan Salt Lake. Learn more about the plan update and ways to share your feedback.

Awards

We will select a youth, amateur, and expert winner for the contest.

Judging Criteria

  • Storytelling on content. Do all the photos relate to the same theme? Do they communicate a clear story to the viewer?
  • Photo composition and technique. Are the photographs well composed and visually striking?

Additional Information

  • All photos must be original and taken within the Central Community area (see map).
  • We are asking participants to show us a vision for their future community, so we will accept photos with post-production elements (such as sketching or collage over the original photo).
  • When submitting, you grant the city permission to use your photos in other published materials, such as the final community plan document or on social media, unless you request otherwise.
