Landscape Equipment Exchange

Gas-powered landscaping equipment creates an outsized amount of air pollution. That’s why Salt Lake City runs a bi-annual incentive program to help residents switch to electric equipment instead. So far, we have helped retire 2,105 units of gas-powered equipment from our airshed, removing an estimated 6,800 pounds of pollutions annually. That’s the equivalent of taking 1,124 cars off the road!

Haven’t had a chance to participate yet? Our Fall 2025 program is expected to open in late September!

E-bike Incentive Program

Salt Lake City ran a pilot E-bike Incentive Program in 2024 with a budget of $200,000. In summer 2024, 277 applications were awarded, equally distributed by Council District. The summer program saw 167 of those redeemed. To spend remaining program funds, another small round was opened in December to those who’d applied in July under the low-income application. An additional 47 vouchers were redeemed, closing out the budget. Read more about the priorities of the program on our blog.

This was a pilot program, and will not be continued in 2025.

Indoor Air Quality Program

We tend to focus on outdoor air quality, but indoor air can be much worse. In the Spring of 2025, we ran a small pilot program where we helped 80 households get tools to improve their indoor air quality. We gave away high-efficiency air filter, air purifiers and induction cooktops with a focus on helping low-income individuals most impacted by poor air quality.

We’re currently evaluating the impact of the program and deciding on our next steps. If you’d like to learn more about indoor air quality, check out our educational article series on our blog.
