Communication & Outreach
SLCgreen is the “public face” of the Sustainability Department. Our outreach teams are dedicated to connecting with Salt Lakers about the City’s sustainability efforts. Our teams regularly join community events, so stop by the SLCgreen table to say hi or ask questions. We share information about our programs, collect feedback from residents, and really love talking about recycling.

2025 Accomplishments
- Tabled at over 40 community events (twice as many as we have on average in the past few years), 18 of which were Westside events.
- Connected in person with over 10,000 residents to discuss climate, sustainability, and waste and recycling.
- Redefined our social media communication to include sustainable storytelling from across City departments. Elevating this work increased cross-departmental collaboration and increased engagement on SLCgreen posts.
- Hosted our first in-person application events for our Clean Air SLC programs. The events extended program access to 70+ residents who experience barriers to online participation.
- Conducted public engagement on the Climate Forward SLC survey, gathering:
- over 700 online survey responses,
- over 200 intercept survey responses,
- and engaging over 400 people with interactive tabling activities.
- Continued to support small businesses through the e2 Business Program:
- Hosted annual E2 Members Night and Green Drinks E2 Program Night.
- Coordinated and supported LED lighting retrofit and building energy assessment for members.
- Developed and hosted two presentations for local business organizations.
- Provided E2 consultations to new and existing program members.
- Developed and distributed a business-focused Climate Forward SLC survey for E2 members and the business community at large.
- In partnership with the Urban Sustainability Directors Network, hosted in June the Western Regional Sustainability Conference for 125 municipal sustainability professionals.
2026 Priorities
- Continue to maintain a robust online outreach presence through our SLCgreen blog, email newsletter, and social media channels.
- Continue to provide support for E2 business members through onsite, one-on-one consultations and hosting membership networking events.
- Launch internal “Green Team” to provide resources and guidance to City staff to promote more sustainable workplace practices. The Green Team will first focus on waste and recycling to improve our internal waste stream.
