Request a Bike Rack

Salt Lake City provides free bike racks in the public right of way in business and commercial areas and City-owned facilities. Use the form below to request a rack! The City cannot install bike racks on private property, including on property owned by other public agencies (state, schools, etc.)

Bike racks installed through this program will not count as meeting Salt Lake City’s required bicycle parking for new or renovated buildings.

Bike Parking Standards

The document below outlines the standards for bicycle racks on private property in Salt Lake City. It specifies the preferred inverted “U” rack design, material requirements, installation guidelines, and spacing standards.

The document below outlines standards for installing bicycle racks on City property. Racks must be anchored to concrete piers or a four-inch thick concrete pad, which should measure at least four by six feet for a single rack (parking two bikes). To prevent corrosion, a threaded steel rod should be used to secure the rack with a washer and nut creating an air gap.

Salt Lake City does not buy custom racks. If one is damaged, the property owner can replace it at their expense, which the city will install. Otherwise, the city will provide a standard inverted “U” rack.
