Livable Streets Zone 9

Poplar Grove: Edison

We’re hosting a public design review on Thursday, January 11th at Edison Elementary from 6 to 7 PM. Your feedback on the initial design concept will help us finalize the neighborhood traffic calming plan in Zone 9. Can’t make the meeting? Take the Livable Streets survey.

Project Overview

In 2023, the Livable Streets team will implement traffic calming in zone 9 of the Livable Streets program. Our goal is to improve the safety, livability, and attractiveness of the streets in the Poplar Grove neighborhood.

Neighborhood Meetings

We are holding public meetings to gather input from the neighborhood on how to best address the traffic safety issues in the area. The following are past meetings in chronological order from most recent to the first meeting:

Neighborhood Meeting - November 9th, 2023

Thursday, November 9th, 2023 at the Neighborhood House

Feedback was provided by the meeting attendees and some trends and common issues were highlighted. Below is a summary of the key takeaways:

  • Main concern heard from the meeting attendees was around speed humps and their implementation. There is no desire for speed humps similar to the ones found in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
  • 800 South is used for cut-through traffic from Redwood Road to Indiana Avenue.
  • Indiana Avenue and Cheyenne Street are high traffic, high speed streets and traffic calming would be welcome.
  • Raised crosswalks and speed tables are the most preferred intervention along the busy streets in this zone (Cheyenne St, 800 South, Indiana Ave).
  • There is a desire to increase perceived and actual safety along the routes to school in the zone.

Virtual Open House - December 14th, 2023

Thursday, December 14th, 2023

No community members made it to the meeting. No feedback was collected.
