Keep Up with the Community Reinvestment Agency (C.R.A.)

The Council, acting as the Community Reinvestment Agency Board, approved items relating to housing and economic growth:

• Allocating tax increment funds to support the Silo Park development. The project includes the construction of 180 affordable housing units, walkable commercial and open green space, including preserving the areas iconic grain silos alongside additional public art in the Granary District. 
• Dispersing funds from the Disaster Relief Loan Program to reconstruct Main Street properties following a fire in 2025. 

Welcoming Council Member Jennifer Napier-Pearce

The Council received remarks from Member Jennifer Napier-Pearce following her first weeks in office. She gave a heartfelt thanks to her family, her colleagues in the City and Council staff.

Briefings

Capital Improvement Program

The Council began reviewing the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which funds community projects and the upkeep of public infrastructure across the city. Project-specific funding will be approved in early September alongside the proposed Six-Year Capital Asset Plan, which the Council was also briefed on.

The Council was also briefed on the following items during the work session:

• The Ballpark rezoning and text amendment, and took a straw poll to indicate the Council’s preference on applying MU-8 to the parcels proposed for MU-11, based on height and compatibility for the area. The Council will likely set the hearing for Tues., Aug. 18 to gather feedback. 
• A presentation on the Climate Forward SLC Plan, highlighting programs aimed to address increased temperatures, drought conditions, wildfires and other climate hazards that impact residents.
• A follow-up on questions around the recent Short-Term Rental Business License code adjustments intended to bolster housing and address resident complaints. The Council confirmed the most recently adopted provisions, but may consider some changes to the nightly rental regulations in the coming months.

Community Engagement Updates: 

Salt Lake City believes public input is essential to making the right decisions for our city. Visit the City’s website for a list of projects currently collecting feedback. 

Sustainability in Salt Lake City:

The City will host a series of free community recycling events in July and August, including:

• Collection locations for hard to recycle items
• Bike fix-it-clinics at Sorenson Unity Center
• Plastic Free July workshops 

Homelessness Update:

Homeless Resource Centers saw a functionally full occupancy rate during June.

The City’s next Homeless Resource Fair will be held July 17 at the Library Square and the Community Corners will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 702 W 200 S.

The Council meets for their work session at 2 p.m., followed by the formal meeting at 7 p.m. and ending upon the conclusion of items listed on the agenda.
