Salt Lake City Council Adopts Annual Budget Focused on a Clean, Safe and Livable City

The $2.2 billion budget invests in housing, transit clean public spaces, and future infrastructure.

SALT LAKE CITY, June 10, 2025 – The Salt Lake City Council adopted the City’s $2.2 billion Fiscal Year 2025-26 (FY26) budget on Tuesday. The adopted budget reflects public feedback and the Council’s long-standing priorities, including housing, transit, clean and safe neighborhoods and long-term infrastructure maintenance.


Votes  

The Council approved the following items during the formal meeting: 

  • An ordinance incorporating land from Salt Lake County into Salt Lake City, making the city’s northwest boundary more unified.
  • Appointing Jonathan Freedman to the Airport Board.
  • Recognizing June 19, 2025 as Juneteenth Freedom Day in Salt Lake City.

Community Reinvestment Agency (C.R.A.) Business

The Council, acting as the C.R.A., addressed the following items at their 2 p.m. meeting:

  • A public hearing on the C.R.A. Budget Amendment No.2 for Fiscal Year 2024-25, which was approved later in the meeting. (Watch)
  • A briefing from the County’s Department of Arts & Culture Division on the Eccles Theater. (Watch)   
  • Approving $2.1 million in financial assistance to NeighborWorks Salt Lake to support two affordable homeownership projects. (Watch)  
  • A briefing on a request to use funds from the State Street Fund-Strategic Intervention Program to activate the Smith’s Ballpark stadium from July to December. (Watch

Briefings 

The Council was briefed on the following items during the work session: 

  • A proposal to rename the northeast baseball field at Riverside Park as the Neil Draper Field. Mr. Draper was an engaged and dedicated member of the community who passed away in March 2025. (Watch)

Next Meeting 

Tuesday, July 1

The Council meets as the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) at 2 p.m. and the Council’s work session begins following the RDA meeting and ends at approximately 6:30 p.m. The formal meeting begins at 7 p.m. and ends upon the conclusion of items listed on the agenda.
