January 11, 2022 and January 18, 2022 Council Meetings
During the January 11 meeting, the Council heard from the Department of Public Utilities about the City’s watershed. The department covered the watershed’s history, its connection to Salt Lake Valley water issues, water quality management, and water rights.
Additionally, the Council was briefed about a new state law affecting water rights and service. On January 18, the Council approved the City’s designated water service area as a result of this new legislation.
Public Utilities is the oldest retail water provider in the Western US. Much of the high-quality drinking water provided by the department comes from the lakes and streams in the Wasatch Mountains, known as the watershed.
