About the Commission
Commission Members
The Historic Landmarks Commission is composed of five to eleven members who reside in Salt Lake City, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Each member serves a four-year term.
Appointments are made to ensure balanced representation of the city’s geographic, professional, neighborhood, and community interests.
The Commission is made up of citizens with a strong interest in historic preservation and knowledge of the city’s heritage, and should include at least two architects and members with preservation related experience such as:
- Archeology
- Architectural History
- Construction
- History / Public History
- Folk Studies
- Law / Land Use Law
- Real Estate Appraisal
- Urban Planning
This diverse composition ensures the Commission has a broad range of skills and perspectives to effectively guide historic preservation efforts.
