Appeals Hearing Officer

Appeals Hearings are held remotely via Zoom on the third Thursday of the month, or as needed. These meetings are conducted virtually with no anchor location at the City & County Building. 


Meeting Participation

Appeals Hearing Officer, Staff, and Applicants connect remotely via Zoom. If you wish to participate during the meeting on items that have a public hearing, you can join using the Zoom link provided on the meeting agenda.

Written comments regarding an item on the agenda may be emailed to the staff contact listed for that specific item.


About Appeals Hearings

Appeal Hearing Officers

An Appeals Hearing Officer must be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. The Mayor may appoint more than one Appeals Hearing Officer, but only one Appeals Hearing Officer must consider and decide upon any matter properly presented for review.

The Appeals Hearing Officer shall be appointed to a term of five (5) years and may serve continuous consecutive terms upon reappointment. The Appeals Hearing Officer shall either be law trained or have significant experience with land use laws and the requirements and operations of administrative hearing processes.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Hear and decide appeals of administrative decision made by the Zoning Administrator, Historic Landmark Commission, Planning Commission, or Civil Enforcement.
  • Hear and decide variance requests.
  • Hear and decide appeals related to Impact Fees.
Becoming an Appeals Hearing Officer

If you are interested in serving as an Appeals Hearing Officer, please submit an application. Only applications submitted up to one year before a vacancy date will be considered. The Mayor’s office will contact applicants only when they are being considered for specific appointments.
