Planning Commission meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month (with some exceptions) at 5:30 pm, at the City and County Building, in room 326. Please Note: Staff Reports will be posted the Friday prior to the meeting and minutes will be posted two days after they are ratified, which usually occurs at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Commission.
Meeting Participation
Public Hearing Comments
To comment during the Public Hearing portion of the meeting, please join us in person:
- Individuals: Each person gets two (2) minutes.
- Recognized Community Organizations (RCO): Representative gets five (5) minutes.
Important Note: Speakers cannot transfer their time to another person.
Submitting Written Comments
If you are unable to attend the meeting in person but would like to submit comments on an agenda item, please email your remarks to the staff contact listed for that specific item.
Submission Deadlines:
- To be included in the Staff Report: Comments must be received by 12:00 PM on the Wednesday before the meeting.
- To be forwarded to the Commission (but not included in the Staff Report): Comments submitted between 12:01 PM on the Wednesday before the meeting and 12:00 PM on the day of the meeting.
Important Notes:
- Comments and materials received after the deadlines may not be reviewed prior to the meeting but will be added to the official record.
- Emails received will not be read aloud during the meeting.

About the Commission
Commission Members
The Planning Commission is made up of five to eleven Salt Lake City residents appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Each member serves a four-year term and may serve two terms. The Director of the Planning Division serves as an ex officio, non-voting member.
Appointments are made to ensure balanced representation of the city’s geographic, professional, neighborhood, and community interests.

Commission Roles and Responsibilities
- Review and make recommendations to City Council regarding comprehensive general plans, general plan amendments, zoning, and City ordinance changes.
- Review and consider for approval: design reviews, planned developments, subdivisions, and conditional uses.
Becoming a Commissioner
If you are interested in serving on the Planning Commission, please submit an application. Only applications submitted up to one year before a vacancy date will be considered. The Mayor’s office will contact applicants only when they are being considered for specific appointments.
