Fluoride Information
Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities discontinued the addition of fluoride to the drinking water system. However, fluoride is still present at low levels in the water due to its natural occurrence in source water, such as groundwater and mountain streams. These naturally occurring concentrations vary between 0.0 to 0.28 mg/L (milligrams per liter) depending on the specific water source and time of year. Our system-wide average is 0.115 mg/L. This is much lower than the previous fluoridation target level of 0.7 mg/L.
The State Division of Drinking Water has set up a website for future use. Fluoride in Utah’s Drinking Water – Utah Department of Environmental Quality Please note the level for Salt Lake City is incorrect and we are working with them to correct it.
