GUIDELINES FOR SERVING DOCUMENTS AT THE SALT LAKE CITY RECORDERS OFFICE

Service of Notice of Claims, Subpoenas or Complaints on Salt Lake City Corporation should be accomplished in the following way:

Notice of Claims: All notices of claims can be mailed to: Salt Lake City Recorder, P.O. Box 145515, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-5515 OR emailed to slcrecorder@slcgov.com. To be timely, the notice of claim must be mailed/emailed on or before the deadline for filing, which will be determined by the postmarked date on the envelope/email.

Subpoenas, Summons and Complaints: To serve a Subpoena, Summons or Complaint on Salt Lake City Corporation schedule an appointment with the Recorder’s Office by visiting the online scheduling system (appointments.slc.gov) or calling 801-535-7671. Please note that only Salt Lake City Corporation can be served at the Salt Lake City Recorder’s Office. To serve a Subpoena, Summons or Complaint on an employee of Salt Lake City Corporation, please refer to the options provided in Rule 4 of the Utah Rules of Civil Procedure or the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, as appropriate, for service on individuals. Alternatively, to serve an employee you may email the Subpoena or Complaint to requestwaiver@slcgov.com and the City Attorney’s Office will attempt to obtain consent to accept service on the employee’s behalf. A Subpoena or Complaint emailed to requestwaiver@slcgov.com is not considered served until you receive a signed copy of your acceptance of service form. To schedule an appointment for service, please visit the online scheduling system (appointments.slc.gov) or call 801-535-7671.

The City Recorder’s Office maintains and preserves the official records of Salt Lake City including the proceedings of the Salt Lake City Council and Redevelopment Agency. Additionally, the Recorder’s office maintains all ordinances and resolutions, keeps the Municipal Code, coordinates and conducts Municipal Elections for Salt Lake City, and administrates administers the City’s Public Records Request Program.
