Mayor Mendenhall initiated this proposal to formally integrate the city’s land use plans with the 2022 Water Conservation Master Plan. This proposed general amendment aims to promote water conservation and assess the impact of current and future development on Salt Lake City’s water supply, infrastructure, and quality. Furthermore, this proposal updates the city’s general plan to comply with Utah State Code 10-9a-403, which mandates the inclusion of a water element in Plan SLC by December 31, 2025. The Planning Commission is required to provide a recommendation to the City Council for this amendment.

Next Steps
- Notice of this application has been sent to all Community Council Chairs.
- Notified parties are given a 45-day period to respond before a public hearing with the Planning Commission.
- During and following this comment period, the Planning Division will evaluate the proposal taking into consideration public comments as they relate to the project, and develop a recommendation for the Planning Commission.
- The Planning Commission will then hold a public hearing for additional public comments and The City Council will make the final decision on the proposal to update the general plan.
