Planning Commission meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month (with some exceptions) at 5:30 pm, at the City and County Building, in room 326. Meeting Participation

To participate during the Public Hearing portion of the meeting, please join us in person. If you are unable to attend, you may email your comments to the staff contact listed for each agenda item, or send general comments to planning.comments@slc.gov.

Public comments submitted after 3 p.m. on the day of the meeting will be read into the record, if received before the Public Hearing closes. Comments must be limited to 2 minutes or less.

Please Note: Public comments are not accepted through livestream platforms.


About the Commission

Commission Members

The Planning Commission is made up of five to eleven Salt Lake City residents appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Each member serves a four-year term and may serve two terms. The Director of the Planning Division serves as an ex officio, non-voting member.

Appointments are made to ensure balanced representation of the city’s geographic, professional, neighborhood, and community interests.

Commission Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review and make recommendations to City Council regarding comprehensive general plans, general plan amendments, zoning, and City ordinance changes.
  • Review and consider for approval: design reviews, planned developments, subdivisions, and conditional uses.
  • Hear and decide appeals from administrative decisions of the Planning Director or designee.

Becoming a Commissioner

If you are interested in serving on the Planning Commission, please submit an application. Only applications submitted up to one year before a vacancy date will be considered. The Mayor’s office will contact applicants only when they are being considered for specific appointments.
