Overview

We are rehabilitating the aging sewer line along West Temple from 1300 South to Utopia Ave. The contractor is using an innovative trenchless method, which accesses the sewer from manholes to reline the pipe. An above ground temporary sewer bypass will be in place along West Temple and nearby streets. Work will be conducted in two phases, and each phase will be split into three segments.

Construction is taking place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with weekend and night work possible. Generators will be running during overnight hours to keep sewer flows pumping through the bypass pipes.

Phase 1: between 1300 South and 1700 South – January to March 2026

Phase 2: between 1700 South and Utopia Ave – April to Summer 2026

Phase 2 Details:

Phase 2 construction will occur in 2 segments over the next few months. Phase 2 Segment 4 construction began March 2026. Each segment is expected to take approximately 3-4 weeks to complete, pending that there are no unforeseen conditions in the sewer line.

Segment 4 of Phase 2: From approximately 1700 South to Grove Avenue

Segment 5 of Phase 2: From approximately Grove Avenue to Utopia Avenue

Construction Impacts

West Temple:

• West Temple will be restricted to local traffic only.
  • In active work zones, West Temple will be reduced to one-way traffic in the southbound direction. The northbound travel lane will be for residential access only.
  • The temporary bypass pipe will restrict left-turns. Please plan to access homes and businesses with right-turns only.
• In active work zones, no on-street parking will be permitted along both sides of West Temple
• Some side streets will be closed to accommodate work
• Garbage pick-up and mail delivery will not be interrupted during construction
• Anticipate brief sewer service interruptions. Affected residents and businesses will be notified 24 hours in advance of any interruptions

2100 South Weekend Impacts:

• The intersection of 2100 South and West Temple will be restricted to eastbound and southbound traffic only over two weekends
  • Friday, April 17^th at 9:00 pm to Monday, April 20^th at 5:00 am
  • Friday, April 24^th at 9:00 pm to Monday, April 27^th at 5:00 am
  • Friday, May 1^st at 9:00 pm to Monday, May 4^th at 5:00 am
• Westbound traffic on 2100 S will be detoured at State Street
• Eastbound traffic on 2100 S will be detoured at 300 W
• At all other times, northbound access to West Temple from 2100 South will be restricted, but all other traffic movements at the intersection will be available
