Mayor Erin Mendenhall signed a proclamation Friday proclaiming June 19, 2020 as Juneteenth Day in Salt Lake City.

“Today is a day of freedom, celebration and reflection as we commemorate of the ending of slavery in the United States,” Mayor Mendenhall said.  “I commit to use my voice and privilege to use this day to reflect on how we can more fully take up the charge of racial equity and root out the injustices that still plague this nation. And I call on all Salt Lake residents to do the same.”
