Utah’s Capital City takes action to support local businesses, names Roberta Reichgelt as Business Development Division Director

SALT LAKE CITY — Roberta Reichgelt has been selected as the new Director of Business Development for Salt Lake City Corporation.

Reichgelt, who has been the local business and entrepreneurship manager for Salt Lake City the past four years, will lead the division responsible for facilitating local business needs and providing customer service for businesses interested in locating in Salt Lake City.

“This is a great opportunity to be an even bigger supporter for the small businesses I already have a relationship with and to also make sure the voice of our entire business community is heard,” Reichgelt said.

As local business and entrepreneurship manager, Reichgelt met with hundreds of small business owners to hear their concerns and meet their needs.

Reichgelt has also been a champion of the City’s Economic Development Loan Fund, which seeks to support small business through lending to startups and businesses not served by traditional banks.

In the new role, Reichgelt will support the broader economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and diverse-owned businesses in the community.

“We know small business is the heartbeat of our City and Roberta is a household name for this community,” Mayor Erin Mendenhall said. “I’m confident she will be a tremendous steward for all of our businesses as we strive for equitable economic opportunity in our City.”

Funding for a Business Development Division Director was approved earlier this year by the Salt Lake City Council and this will be the first time the City will have a standalone permanent Business Development Division Director.

“We thank Council for their foresight and support of our vital local business community,” said Ben Kolendar, Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Economic Development. “Roberta will do a tremendous job not only with small businesses and entrepreneurs but also our corporate partners that call Utah’s capital city home.”
