The 2100 South Road Reconstruction project underway in Sugar House requires westbound-only traffic for two blocks from June 17 until mid-August. The eastbound lane between 900 and 1100 East will be closed for construction crews; westbound traffic will continue as usual.

This temporary closure will ensure that construction vehicles and crews can quickly and safely replace the underground water and sewer line utilities near the center of the roadway, which were built in 1914 and require replacement.

All businesses and homes in the area will be accessible from side streets. 1100 East will temporarily reopen to two-way traffic between 1700 South and 2100 South to help people navigate this closure and access local businesses.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the community’s patience while the City reconstructs 2100 South to replace and upgrade critical utility infrastructure such as water, sewer, and stormwater drainage,” said Mark Stephens, city engineer for Salt Lake City. “This work safeguards taxpayers’ investment in 2100 South and extends the lifespan of this roadway. Our goal is always to reduce roadway construction impacts to residents and businesses—in Sugar House and elsewhere around the City.”

Eastbound 2100 South traffic will detour at 900 East to Sugarmont Avenue, then over to Highland Drive to get back to 2100 South. Westbound 2100 South travelers will not be able to make left turns into side streets on the south side of the road because of the utility work. UTA Route 21 will follow the same route.

The 2100 South Road Reconstruction project is funded through Salt Lake City’s Funding Our Future bond. The specific utility work over the next eight weeks will ensure that this major east-west artery in Sugar House will safely and reliably support neighborhood business and the community now and into the future.

Salt Lake City is doing its part, and Salt Lakers can do theirs too. Visit your favorite Sugar House retailers, restaurants, and bars; they are open and accessible during construction!

To optimize your visit to Sugar House during construction, plan extra time to travel through the area and identify parking in advance using the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce parking availability map at https://sugarhousechamber.org/business-map/.
