Street Reconstruction Projects

Responsive Margin

In November 2018, Salt Lake City voters approved the $87 million Funding Our Future Streets Reconstruction Bond. This funding enables the City to begin repairing the most deteriorated streets, extending their lifespan by combining bond funds with new sales tax revenue dedicated to street maintenance. Street project locations are chosen based on pavement condition, rotating through all seven city districts. Many of these projects also integrate complete street elements to improve safety for all travel modes. The Engineering Division oversees maintenance strategies for the City’s 1,850 lane miles, using field inspections and pavement surveys to assess conditions. View estimated road conditions using the pavement condition map.

Construction generally takes place from April to October each year. While each project varies, typical improvements include asphalt repaving, sidewalk, curb, gutter, pedestrian ramp upgrades, and minor storm drain repairs. Local street reconstructions usually take about 2-4 weeks, while major street reconstructions are more extensive and vary in duration. During construction, residents can expect noise, dust, and vibration during normal working hours. Vehicle and pedestrian routes may be detoured, but access to properties will be maintained whenever possible. The project team will coordinate directly with residents when driveway access needs replacement.
