The Salt Lake City Planning Division has received a conditional use request for a heliport located at 2215 N 2200 W. The request comes from Gary Beecher representing the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District (SLCMAD). SLCMAD requests conditional use approval in order to house their aviation equipment at their existing location on 2200 N as well as to expand their flight operations for future demands.

The subject property is located within the Business Park (BP) zoning district, which requires a conditional use permit to operate a heliport. The conditional use process requires review of the proposal’s location, design, configuration, and impact to determine the desirability of allowing such use.

Next Steps

  • Notice of this application has been sent to the Westpointe Community Council, where the project is located, who may choose to schedule the matter at an upcoming meeting. Please contact the Westpointe Community Council at info@westpointecc.org to determine whether a community council will review this petition and when and how that meeting will occur.
  • Notice has been sent to property owners and residents within 300 feet of the project to obtain public input and comments on the proposal. Notified parties are given a 45-day period to respond before a public hearing with the Planning Commission can be scheduled.
  • During and following this comment period, the Planning Division will evaluate the proposal against the applicable standards, taking into consideration public comments as they relate to the standards, and development a recommendation for the Planning Commission.
  • The Planning Commission will then hold a public hearing for additional public comments and make the final decision on the matter.
