How do I report a concern?
  • Email civilenforcement@slc.gov or call 801-535-7225
  • Report via the MySLC app, available on web or mobile
What happens after I report a concern?
  • Civil Enforcement will investigate the concern in a timely manner
  • You may be contacted for clarification
  • Limited information can be shared while the case is ongoing
  • Full information can only be obtained through GRAMA requests
  • If there is a violation, the City sends written correspondence to owner(s)
  • Those found in violation get a reasonable amount of time to make corrections
  • Most property owners will resolve a violation on their own after receiving notice
  • Because each case is different, compliance timelines can vary
  • The City endeavors to resolve every violation as quickly as possible
What happens if I receive a Notice of Violation?
  • Letters are mailed through USPS to the mailing address on file with the County Recorder
  • If you get a violation letter and have questions, just call the enforcement officer whose name and phone number are provided at the bottom. Or, call 801-535-7225
  • If the issue isn’t corrected, you will receive more than one letter
  • To avoid penalties, make the corrections by the deadline listed in your letter
  • Property owners are solely responsible for the code violations that occur on their property
How can I have a Certificate of Non-Compliance removed?
  • To get a Certificate of Non-Compliance removed, please call 801-535-7225 or email civilenforcement@slc.gov
Am I responsible for violations that were on the property before I bought it?
  • The short answer is yes
  • If a new owner takes control of the property and violations still exist, the new owner is responsible for bringing the property into compliance
