2019 Westside Music, Arts and Food Festival Returns for Third Year

With financial support from the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, the Westside Music, Arts and Food Festival returns this Saturday,June 22nd from 10 am to 4 pm at Sugar Space (132 S. 800 W.) in Salt Lake City. The Festival features a variety of food, art and performers on several stages.

Along with live entertainment, an additional 30 art and community booths will tie the festival together, including booths where residents can get information from multiple candidates running in this year’s municipal election. The Festival is open to all ages and is free to attend.

Conceived two years ago as a way to showcase positive elements of Salt Lake City’s Westside, including a new art installation under the I-15 overpass recently completed by the City, the Festival has grown in its success each year.

“We’re starting to see the results we’re hoping for,” said Camille Cook of Restore North Temple. “Crime and vagrancy have been reduced significantly due to stepped up efforts by Salt Lake Police and focus from the Mayor’s office,” she added.

800 West will be closed to auto traffic as artists and vendors setup on the grassy median.

This year’s performers include; Juana Ghani, Burn L Washburn, Steve Haines, Daniel Weldon, Richard Warner Poole and the MADHATS, WestSide Dance, The Backyard Revival, Booyah Moon, FEED the HORSE, David Halliday & The New Orleans Project, and Blue Rain Boots.

The Westside Festival is free to the public thanks to generous donations from Rocky Mountain Power, Marathon Petroleum, Red Iguana restaurant, Swaby Real Estate, SLC Mayor’s Office Ace Grant and Congregation Spirits, who recently announced plans to create a new distillery and restaurant nearby. It’s organized by Restore North Temple, Sugar Space Foundation and the River District Chamber.
