
Foothills Steward Lead Role
Foothills Steward Leads play an important role in preserving and enhancing the health, beauty, and accessibility of our foothills trails and natural areas. This volunteer position supports the Public Lands Division’s efforts to maintain trails, manage invasive species, and foster a sense of stewardship within the community.

What is the time commitment for a Steward Lead?
- Minimum of 15 hours per season (includes volunteer events, planning, outreach, and administrative work).
- Participation in a seasonal training session (two 2-hour sessions).
- Periodic check ins with the Public Lands Volunteer Team
- Help recruit volunteers to participate in volunteer events.
- Attend at least 3 of 6 Foothills Stewardship sessions throughout the season. The season is April through September.

- Thursday, March 27, 6:00-7:30pm, Steward Lead Training
- At the Public Lands building
- Thursday, April 3, 5:30pm – 8:00pm
- Wednesday, May 7, 9:30am – 12:00pm AND 5:30-8:00pm
- Parley’s Point
- Saturday, June 14, 8:30am – 11:00am
- Lower City Creek/Freedom Trail
- Saturday, August 2, 8:30 – 11:00am
- Rotary Glen Nature Trail (alternate: Emigration Trailhead)
- Wednesday, September 24, 4:30pm – 7:00pm
- Tuesday, October 21, 4:30pm – 6:30pm
- Thursday, March 27, 6:00-7:30pm, Steward Lead Training
Note: In the event of a cancellation, volunteers will be notified as soon as possible. Locations are subject to change based on weather, plant growth, and other factors. Volunteers will be notified of any changes via email.
What are the qualifications of a Steward Lead?
- Be passionate about outdoor stewardship and preserving natural spaces.
- Be physically able to hike trails and perform light to moderate manual labor.
- Have strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with the public.
- Be reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Prior experience with trail maintenance or invasive species management is a plus, but training will be provided.

How do I become a Foothills Steward Lead?

- If selected, attend a 2-hour in person training/meet and greet with our team.
- Attend a 2-hour training in the field.
- Co-lead a Foothills volunteer event with our staff.
Our Team Provides:
- Comprehensive training in trail maintenance, invasive weed identification and removal, and safety protocols.
- Access to tools, equipment, and materials needed for volunteer tasks.
- Ongoing support and guidance from the Public Lands Department and experienced stewards.
