Steenblik Park: GO Bond Project

Project Description

Home to the large bronze-cast cat sculptures (“Dairy Cats” by Day Christensen), Steenblik Park is a 0.61-acre park in the Rose Park neighborhood. Using funds from the Parks, Trails, & Open Space General Obligation Bond (GO Bond), approved in November 2022, Steenblik will be enhanced to better reflect neighborhood needs and unique history.

Community Engagement

First Round of Public Input

Public Lands conducted the first phase of community engagement for Steenblik Park from May to September 2023.

Second Round of Public Input

Using the insights shared with us by the community in the First Round of Public Input, a couple designs were created to help visualize the redesign of Steenblik Park.

In October 2024 we heard from hundreds of community members responding to those designs. Results showed the following:

  • Desire for playground improvements, particularly incorporating toddler features
  • Desire for shade and seating
  • Desire for the history of the area to be recognized

Project Updates

Next Steps!

Public Lands staff will consult with technical experts, consultants, landscape architects, and maintenance supervisors to adjust the final design of the park based on feedback received. Once the design is finalized, Public Lands will go out to bid to select a contractor.

Construction is tentatively expected to begin in 2026.
