Full Project Scope

The project will create two additional neighborhood pedestrian access points into the Wasatch Hollow Preserve, from Kensington Avenue and Rosecrest Avenue. Specific Improvements include:
• Kensington Avenue: Modification of existing gate to allow pedestrian access and entrance signage
• Rosecrest Drive: Stairs from Rosecrest Drive, a pedestrian bridge over Emigration Creek and fencing to delineate public and private property boundaries
• Other Wasatch Hollow Park improvements include a dog drinking fountain and six new benches within the formal park

This project originally included a new access point at Emerson Avenue with stairs and signage. This was removed due to limited budget and design challenges.

June 2023 Update

Public Lands has completed design for the Access project. Public Lands is working with Utah Open Lands to capture the proposed bridge for the Rosecrest access point in the Wasatch Hollow Open Space Management Plan. The process of amending the Management Plan will take place through the summer and fall. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2024.

2022 Engagement

The Access project led to additional questions about the off-leash dog area in Wasatch Hollow Park. In the summer of 2022, Public Lands developed a community survey to gauge sentiment around the existing off-leash area and the challenges it presents. Public Lands worked closely with Wasatch Hollow Community Council in late 2022 to submit a constituent CIP application to fund further engagement, visioning, and improvements in the Park. Additional dog-oriented amenities in the Park (including a water fountain) are on hold until options for the off-leash area can be explored.

Background

The 2011 Wasatch Hollow Open Space Use, Restoration and Management Plan recommended increasing the connectivity and
access locations into the North end of the Wasatch Hollow Preserve. In 2019, a Capital Improvement Program application was submitted for these improvements and the project was awarded funding in September 2019.
