West Temple Sewer Line Project

Overview

We are rehabilitating the aging sewer line along West Temple from 1300 South to Utopia Ave. The contractor is using an innovative trenchless method, which accesses the sewer from manholes to reline the pipe. An above ground temporary sewer bypass will be in place along West Temple and nearby streets. Work will be conducted in two phases, and each phase will be split into three segments.

Construction is taking place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with weekend and night work possible. Generators will be running during overnight hours to keep sewer flows pumping through the bypass pipes.

Phase 1: between 1300 South and 1700 South – anticipated to occur January to May 2026

Phase 2: between 1700 South and Utopia Ave – schedule to be determined

Phase 1 Details:

Phase 1 construction will occur in 3 segments over the next several months. Phase 1 Segment 1 construction began January 2026. Each segment is expected to take approximately 5 weeks to complete, pending that there are no unforeseen conditions in the sewer line.

Segment 1 of Phase 1: From approximately Andrew Avenue to Quayle Avenue

Segment 2 of Phase 1: From approximately Harris Avenue to mid-block between 1300 South and 1400 South

Segment 3 of Phase 1: From approximately mid-block between Merrimac Avenue and Andrew Avenue to 1300 South

Construction Impacts

West Temple:

  • West Temple will be restricted to local traffic only.
    • In active work zones, West Temple will be reduced to one-way traffic in the southbound direction. The northbound travel lane will be for residential access only.
    • The temporary bypass pipe will restrict left-turns. Please plan to access homes and businesses with right-turns only.
  • In active work zones, no on-street parking will be permitted along the east side of West Temple
  • Some side streets will be closed to accommodate work
  • Garbage pick-up and mail delivery will not be interrupted during construction
  • Anticipate brief sewer service interruptions. Affected residents and businesses will be notified 24 hours in advance of any interruptions.

Temporary Sewer Bypass Pipe:

  • A temporary sewer bypass pipe will be in place during Phase 1 along West Temple, Main Street, 1700 South, Merrimac Avenue, 1400 South and Jefferson Street
  • Left turns will be restricted on portions of Main Street and West Temple where the sewer bypass pipe will not be buried
  • The sewer bypass pipe will restrict left turns along the road and from side streets

1300 South:

  • Traffic on 1300 South from the TRAX line to West Temple will be reduced to one lane in each direction
  • Traffic will be shifted to the north side of the road
  • This section of 1300 South will be restricted to right-turns only to access businesses
  • Jefferson Street can be accessed from 1400 South
  • Pedestrian access in the area will be maintained
  • Lane reductions and lane shifting are anticipated to be in place throughout Phase 1
