I have been disheartened by the news out of Alabama and Georgia this past week. These two state legislatures have passed some of the most extreme abortion bans in the country.

These outright assaults on Roe v. Wade, the United States Constitution, and women’s bodily autonomy should not be taken lightly.

This threat isn’t theoretical, and it has serious consequences for women and their families across the country. Since the beginning of the year, more than 300 abortion restrictions have been introduced in state legislatures around the country.

This past legislative session, Utahns saw legislators try to strip women of their reproductive rights, and I support Salt Lake County’s District Attorney in his decision to abide by the US Constitution and not enforce an abortion ban in Utah.

These threats on women’s bodies are more than an attack, they are a call to action. Women: if you can run for office, do it. Or, support a woman who is. We need you to fight for the rights of women from a leadership position, now more than ever.
