SALT LAKE CITY – Bus service to and from the Sugarhouse Temporary Shelter is just one of the community services which are now fully funded through mid-April thanks in part to a contribution made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“When we opened the Sugar House Temporary Shelter, it took the effort of a community to bring together all of those needs, and we’re so thankful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for jumping into this effort and helping to ensure that the services needed to see it through are funded,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall.
“The winter months can prove especially challenging for those with unstable living arrangements and unmet transportation needs,” said Bishop Dean Davies, first counselor in the Presiding Bishopric of the Church. “This small effort, helping people move seamlessly from shelter to services and back, is an essential need this community provides for its citizens who have encountered difficult times.”

The Church’s contribution will be made directly to the service providers and will enable continued bus service to and from the Sugar House temporary shelter and the Weigand Center, increased shuttle service to and from the Weigand Center to the Men’s Resource Center, and enable Catholic Community Services to keep the Weigand Center open as a warm place for people to connect to services, including food, showers, storage for personal belongings, computer access, employment resources, housing connections and more, until 11 p.m. every night.
