Gallivan Center announces reopening with robust community events schedule

SALT LAKE CITY — The John W. Gallivan Utah Center will host more than 40 low-cost in-person events this July, August, and September.

Located in the center of the Downtown block at 239 South and Main St, the Gallivan Center’s outdoor amphitheater 12-week line up includes:

  • Excellence in the Community Concerts + Big Band Dance Nights
  • Twilight Concerts
  • Monday Night Movies
  • Food Truck Thursdays
  • Afro Utah Festival
  • A Summer Night’s Queen
  • Bluegrass Saturday Night
  • Recovery Day
  • Rock ‘N’ Ribs

“We’re happy that after a year of socially-distanced adaptations to Gallivan’s traditional summer lineup, we’re finally able to reopen this iconic outdoor venue for free and affordable events that bring people into the heart of Downtown to enjoy all the talent, culture, and beauty Salt Lake City has to offer,” said Salt Lake City Mayor and RDA Executive Director Erin Mendenhall.

Long-time Gallivan Center partner, Excellence in the Community, will have a strong weekly presence, bringing the public free musical concerts each Wednesday and Big Band Dance Nights each Tuesday.

The Excellence in the Community concert series reached an international audience throughout 2020 by live-streaming performances. Featuring a variety of Utah musical artists, Excellence garnered 10.3 million views, totaling more than 5 million minutes of total watch time.

The popular Twilight Concert Series is also returning with five concerts scheduled for late-August and September. This will mark Twilight’s second year since its return to the Gallivan Center. Each summer the series presents a wide range of nationally recognized and upcoming musicians from across the country and around the world, paired with local musicians and performers.
