Project Homeless Connect returns to Salt Lake City on March 24 with expanded services and goals

March 20, 2023

Project Homeless Connect is returning to Salt Lake City on March 24th, 2023, to provide much-needed services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The event will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Project Homeless Connect is a collaborative effort between community organizations, government agencies, and volunteers to provide a one-stop-shop for individuals experiencing homelessness to access services such as housing, employment, healthcare, legal assistance, vision exams & glasses, haircuts, dental cleanings, extractions, and more.

According to Michael Akerlow, with the Community Development Corporation of Utah and one of the event organizers, “Project Homeless Connect does more than connect people to much needed services—which is so important—it also connects us in a deeply human way. As we serve, we gain perspective on the issues of homelessness and can develop a sense of compassion for those in this situation. It is a truly profound experience for anyone who is involved.”

“We are thrilled to support Project Homeless Connect again this year after it was away due to the pandemic,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “This day is such an incredible opportunity for people to help those experiencing homelessness connect to services that have both short- and long-term impacts. It’s another way Salt Lake City is working with community partners year-round. We look forward to seeing our community gather together again and serve in such a meaningful way.”

The event is open to everyone, and volunteers are needed to assist with various tasks such as registration, food service, and directing attendees to service providers. Volunteers can sign up on the Project Homeless Connect website at https://www.phcslc.org/volunteer.
