The Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City proudly begins a new chapter in its history with the announcement of a new name. The 55-year-old organization will officially be known as the Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency, reflecting its mission to reinvest in and uplift Salt Lake City’s communities through projects that create meaningful and lasting benefits for all residents.

“I’m excited to embrace a name that reflects our dedication to building a city where everyone can thrive,” said Board Chair Alejandro “Ale” Puy. “This new name reaffirms our commitment to community-centered growth and delivering tangible, lasting benefits to the people of Salt Lake City.”

This change aligns the agency’s name with its values and prioritization of community-centered development that supports livability, inclusivity, and economic growth. The transition to “Community Reinvestment Agency” also aligns with Utah state statute.

“The Community Reinvestment Agency’s work is guided by a clear vision: to create spaces where neighborhoods flourish, opportunities are within reach, and every resident feels connected and supported,” said SLCCRA Executive Director and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “Under this new name, we will continue to build a city that reflects the aspirations of our communities.”

In December 2021, the agency adopted a Guiding Framework with public benefits at the forefront of its work. This framework clarified the agency’s mission, established benchmarks for success, and defined values prioritizing social, economic, and physical outcomes that benefit all Salt Lake City residents. This name change formalizes and reaffirms the agency’s dedication to those principles and the vision of creating spaces where all residents can thrive.

“Our new name represents more than a shift in terminology—it’s a reflection of who we are and our priority as an agency,” said Danny Walz, Director of the Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency. “It underscores our commitment to reinvesting in local communities, ensuring that the projects we pursue make a meaningful difference for the people who live, work, and play in Salt Lake City.”
