What the New Rates Mean

Rates Focused on Fairness and Conservation

Salt Lake City’s proposed utility rate updates are designed to keep essential services reliable while encouraging smart water use.

Even after these updates, Salt Lake City’s rates remain competitive compared to other large cities in our region.

What do the new rates mean for me?

Customers’ rates change will look different for everyone depending on their individual combination of the following factors:

  • What type of customer: Residential or commercial?
  • Diameter of pipe and meter: ¾-inch or 1-inch?
  • Water usage: Low-, medium-, or high-user?

What level of increase can I expect?

We know that your public utility bill is just one of the many household expenses in your household budget. To get an idea of how your bill might change, click on the buttons below:

How do block water rates work?

Salt Lake City uses a block pricing system for residential customers:

  • Using less water keeps you in lower-cost blocks.
  • Using more water moves you into higher-cost blocks, which charge slightly more per gallon.

This structure rewards smart water use and helps protect our long-term water resources.
