Neighborhood Improvement & Stabilization Programs

Programs Overview

Salt Lake City’s goal is to foster communities with safe, sustainable and affordable housing.  With our new Five-Year Housing Plan, passed December 2017, we can work to stabilize families in their current homes, provide new opportunities for affordable home ownership and ensure our neighborhoods are equitable, integrated communities that can support new growth. To advance these goals, the Housing Stability Division is currently offering the following programs:

  • Handyman Program– Homeowners with someone in the home that is at least 65 years old or disabled who are low to moderate income can receive a grant up to $1,500 to address small home repair.
  • Home Repair Program– Homeowners who are low to moderate income to obtain may obtain no or low-interest loans to address health, safety, and structural issues in your home.
  • Home Buyer Program– Individuals and/or families who are low to moderate income can obtain a mortgage loan for Salt Lake City Homes. This is in combination with our Shared Equity Program.
  • Shared Equity Program– Combines with our Homebuyer Program to preserve our naturally affordable housing, make home ownership affordable now and in the future, and increase habitable homes in Salt Lake City.
  • Neighborhood Business Improvement Program– Small and Local business owners may apply to receive a grant to update the façade of their building.
  • Fix the Bricks– Homeowners may receive financial assistance to provide seismic retrofit to brick homes.
