Construction Projects
Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities provides drinking water to nearly 400,000 residents, businesses, and institutions across Salt Lake City and neighboring communities. The Utility also manages flood control and storm water, wastewater collection and treatment, and street lighting services.
To keep these essential systems safe and reliable, the Utility completes infrastructure projects across the city. These projects span the city’s culinary water systems, sewer networks, storm drains, treatment plants, dams, canals, and reservoirs. This page highlights current and upcoming projects and provides information about what to expect during construction.

Key Projects
We have over 70 active projects. We’ve highlighted a few of our key projects below.
Generational Projects:
Water Reclamation Facility
Salt Lake City’s new Water Reclamation Facility will replace the existing wastewater treatment plant. The new facility will meet updated regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Utah’s Department of Water Quality. This is the second largest public works project in Salt Lake City’s history.

City Creek Water Treatment Plant Upgrades
The City Creek Water Treatment Plant (CCWTP), the first municipal water treatment plant in Utah, began operations in 1955. For more than 65 years, it has played a vital role in providing drinking water to the community. Due to aging infrastructure and mechanical inefficiencies, we are upgrading the City Creek Water treatment plant.
