FEMA’s Environmental Assessment for the City Creek Water Treatment Plant project is available for review

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is proposing to fund Salt Lake City’s City Creek Water Treatment Plant (CCWTP) Resilient Water Quality and Supply project (Project). Funding would be provided through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, Fiscal Year 2021, as authorized by the Disaster Recovery Reform Act (DRRA) of 2018. The purpose of the BRIC grant program is to proactively invest in hazard mitigation projects, reducing the risks that communities face from disasters and natural hazards. FEMA has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA), as the lead agency. The purpose of the EA is to analyze the potential environmental impacts of the proposed action, and to determine whether to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).

The purpose of the proposed action is to reduce seismic, flood, and landslide hazards to the CCWTP. The proposed action is needed to make the current facility more resilient to the natural hazards of earthquakes, floods, landslides, and debris flows in order to ensure essential operations and services are able to continue during these types of events.
