Overview
This page highlights major construction happening across Salt Lake City. Scroll down to explore current projects, including those funded by the Funding Our Future bond.
Salt Lake City repairs and rebuilds streets each year to improve safety, accessibility, and pavement life. Projects range from resurfacing to full reconstructions and often include complete streets upgrades like new sidewalks, bike lanes, and safer crossings.
Projects are selected based on pavement conditions and occur in every City Council district. The Engineering Division manages over 1,850 lane miles of streets and uses field inspections and survey data to prioritize work. You can check the pavement condition map to see estimated road conditions citywide.
Construction typically runs from April to October. Local street work may take a few weeks; larger projects can take longer. Expect daytime noise, dust, and detours — but access to homes and driveways is maintained whenever possible. If access is temporarily impacted, our team will coordinate with you directly.

Additional Resources
Transportation
Transportation projects aim make streets safer and more comfortable for everyone, whether you’re walking, driving, or biking. To learn more, visit the Transportation Division website.
Maintenance
The Streets Division helps take care of Salt Lake City’s roads. Maintenance work keeps streets in good shape and includes smaller repairs like filling cracks and resurfacing. These projects are usually quicker and cause less disruption than full street rebuilds.
Fiber Projects
Internet companies install fiber cables along public streets and sidewalks. Workers will drill holes in grass strips between sidewalks and streets, and sometimes along the edges of roads. Installation usually takes 8 to 14 days to complete. If you need to contact the crew, look for a phone number on their work vehicles. If you don’t see a number, you can check the public permits map or Citizen Access Portal and search for permits near your address to find contact information.

UDOT and Private Roads
Salt Lake City doesn’t own all the roads within city limits. The Utah Department of Transportation owns and maintains some major roads, including parts of 700 East, 400 South, Foothill Drive, State Street, Redwood Road, and 300 West. Private companies also own some roads in the city.
