Learn more about our 4th Avenue Well project

The Department of Public Utilities has begun several months of public outreach on a project to update a vitally productive underground well at 4th Avenue and Canyon Road (about 200 East) in Salt Lake City. Since 1968, the well has produced 5 million to 7 million gallons of water per day, supplying the Downtown and Capitol Hill areas much of their drinking water in peak demand summer months. The well also provides critical water flow for firefighting. Modern electrical code and safety regulations no longer support the current infrastructure. Worker safety and maintaining water supply and quality are our priorities in undertaking this project, and we will be working closely with the community to create a structure that fits the aesthetic and historic nature of the Avenues and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. Please visit our website dedicated to the 4th Avenue Well project. We will respond promptly to your comments and questions, and provide regular updates to the site as new information becomes available.
