Our dedicated U.S. Forest Service partners

As the partial federal government shutdown grinds through Day 24, we thought you should know this: Seven avalanche forecasters and five law enforcement officers who work for the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest on location from Logan to Moab are working each day without pay. The federal government classifies them as “exceptional” employees because their job is to protect public health and safety. So they continue to show up and work for free. These professionals are essential partners with SLC Public Utilities in safeguarding our Wasatch Canyons watershed. They also work closely with the Utah Avalanche Center offices throughout the state in providing important safety information for back country skiers and snowmobile enthusiasts. We’re grateful for their dedication and work ethic.
