The State of Utah Division of Drinking Water (DDW) is proposing to provide funding to the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU) through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) Funding. As part of this initiative, SLCDPU is conducting an environmental review in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for the Lead Service Line Replacement Project. The project seeks to replace aging lead service lines throughout SLCDPU’s service area to improve drinking water quality, meet federal standards for lead mitigation, and protect public health. The project involves construction in already disturbed areas and is not expected to have significant environmental impacts. As such, SLCDPU is requesting a Categorical Exclusion (CATEX) under NEPA guidelines. A draft NEPA CATEX document has been prepared and is available for public review and comment. The document can be found online or in person at 1530 S West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT.
