Overview
Salt Lake City repairs and rebuilds streets to improve safety, accessibility, and pavement life. Work ranges from resurfacing to full reconstruction and often includes complete streets upgrades like new sidewalks, bike lanes, and safer crosswalks.
Projects are selected based on pavement conditions and take place in all City Council districts. The Engineering Division manages over 1,850 lane miles and uses inspection and survey data to prioritize repairs. Many of these projects are funded through the 2018 voter-approved Funding Our Future bond.
Construction usually runs from April to October. Local street work takes a few weeks; larger projects take longer. Expect daytime noise, dust, and detours but access to homes and driveways is maintained whenever possible. If access is temporarily affected, our team will coordinate with you directly.

Fiber projects
Internet companies install fiber cables along public streets and sidewalks. Workers drill holes in grass strips between sidewalks and streets and along the edges of roads. Installation takes 8 to 14 days. If you need to contact the crew, look for a phone number on the vehicle. You can also use the public permits map or Citizen Access Portal to search for permits and contact information.
